His face, outlined in black ink, is composed with geometric-like planes filled in with crosshatch lines of black, yellow and red. His piercing gaze looks out skeptically. On the right, a dark shadow falls on the man’s jaw and neck. Yellow lines appear behind the man on the left, and energetic red strokes emanate outwards from his skull on the right. Dwight Mackintosh | DMa 328 ND | 18x24 inches | Hand embellished lithograph | Opening bid $3,000 A horizontal piece containing four abstract figures, all standing, drawn in profile. Repetitive black ink strokes outline each figure, along with their eyes, lips, nose, breasts, hands and fingers, feet and toes, and strands of hair. A pointed projectile shape emanates from between the legs of each figure. Black watercolor wash is applied to each figure’s hair, and their bodies are overlaid with brown paint. Magenta paint is applied to their lips, and their cheeks are stained pink. Above the figures, seven lines of gestural writing scroll across the width of the page in black ink. The first layer of brown and black ink and paint pen drawings are almost completely covered by numerous layers of paint strokes. Diagonal lines in black, bright yellow and vibrant blue are also painted throughout the piece. The figure’s bodies are intermittently saturated with black ink lines or slightly shaded with fewer ink strokes. They appear conjoined in places, and overlap in others. They have strong facial features, long eyelashes, voluptuous lips, and textured, pompadour hairdos. The men wear loudly patterned clothing; a broad collared shirt with polka dots and fringe appears on the left, a wide check jacket in the middle paired with a closely striped necktie, and a small grid jacket and dotted necktie on the right. Two blank pieces of paper and a jar with a pen are on the table in front of the trio.
